Promise Zone Peace Initiative

Rebuilding
The Village.

Churches, schools, businesses and services joining as one village where the need is greatest, so no Villager has to find the way alone.

Now launching in Tallahassee–Leon County, Florida

“We, the Villagers, Peace Hubs, anchors, providers and partners of this Promise Zone, enter this agreement not because we agree on everything, but because we share a duty to the young people and families who live here.”

Promise Zone: the neighborhoods with the greatest need, where the village is rebuilt first.

Peace Hub: a church, school, community center or family cohort that opens its doors as a trusted front door.

Anchor: a church, business, corporation, agency or scholarship partner that stands behind a Peace Hub with activation costs, volunteers, programs or specialists.

* Not ready to host? Join as a referral-only partner and connect Villagers to a nearby Peace Hub.

How it works

One front door. A whole village behind it.

  1. 1

    A Villager reaches out

At a Peace Hub or referral partner they already trust.

  2. 2

    Welcomed & enrolled

Trained volunteers listen first, then enroll them.

  3. 3

    Virtual Village Portal

A LIFE Specialist completes their Individual LIFE Plan (ILP), and they get portal access.

  4. 4

    Referred in 72 hours

The Village Provider Network picks up what the plan needs.

  5. 5

    Progress, reported

Engagement, earning, education and safety, every month.

How the village connects

Peace Hubs at the center. The whole village around them.

  1. Peace Hubs

Churches, schools and community centers open their doors as the trusted front door for Villagers.

  2. Village Provider Network

Local and virtual services, resources, programs and employers, connected to each Villager’s ILP.

  3. Anchors

Churches, businesses, agencies and scholarship partners standing behind every hub with activation costs, volunteers and capacity.

The Promise Zone Peace Agreement

Agreement on how we disagree.

Nine commitments for people and institutions who may disagree on specifics, but agree on how we disagree and on an honest account of whether conditions are improving.

Sign the Peace Pledge ↗
  1. We will stay in relationship with people we disagree with on the issues that affect this Zone, rather than retreat to those who already agree with us.
  2. We will name disagreement specifically, rather than describing the people we disagree with in general terms.
  3. We will treat local data — on safety, jobs, housing, and credit — as something this Zone checks together, not something any side owns.
  4. We will not ask any resident to give up who they are to be heard here; we will only ask that others be heard too.
  5. We commit to a visible, tracked Economic Peace Dividend from this work — peace that is only an absence of violence, and not also a presence of opportunity, is not yet peace.
  6. Where the justice system has already spoken about someone in this room, we will pair their full standing here with real accountability, not silence about the past or exclusion from the future.
  7. We will make space, on a standing basis, for this Zone’s history and harm to be named aloud — reconciliation does not happen by accident.
  8. We will return to this table when the commitments we made are checked, whether they held or they didn’t.
  9. We understand that peace here does not mean agreement on everything. It means agreement on how we disagree, and a shared, honest account of whether conditions are actually improving.

Good to know.

What is a Promise Zone?

The neighborhoods with the greatest need in a community. We start the work there and grow outward. Tallahassee–Leon County has five Promise Zone ZIP codes.

What is a Peace Hub?

A church, school or community center that opens its doors on set hours each week. Trained volunteers welcome Villagers, enroll them in the Virtual Village Network and connect them to the Village Provider Network.

What does an anchor do?

An anchor is a church, agency, organization or business that stands behind a Peace Hub, sharing people, resources and support so the hub can thrive.

What is a referral-only partner?

A partner that is not ready to host a Peace Hub yet. Referral-only partners welcome Villagers and connect them to a nearby hub. They register with the Peace Hub form.

What is an ILP?

An Individual LIFE Plan: one shared plan for each Villager, with goals for wellness, earning, education and life skills. It is created, connected, coordinated and coached in the Virtual Village Network.

What are Village Buckets?

Village Buckets are how the village funds Villager Scholarships together: LIFE Skills, Earning & Employment, LIFE Specialist and LIFE Support. Choose a bucket, scholarship once or monthly, and your gift serves Villagers enrolled through a Peace Hub or referral partner.

What is the Peace Pledge?

Nine commitments that make up the Promise Zone Peace Agreement, signed by people and institutions who may disagree on specifics but agree on how to disagree and on a shared, honest account of progress. Anyone can sign it on this page.

Is this only for Tallahassee?

No. The Promise Zone Peace Initiative is built for any community. We are launching in Tallahassee–Leon County first, and the same forms and network will carry to each new city.

Who is behind the initiative?

The Village Lead Agencies are CAJM (Capital Area Justice Ministry) and WAAWN (We Are All We Need, Inc.), working through The Village System of Care and the Village Faith Coalition, with FAMU CEPRA as mentors, coaches and off-campus support.
